Together, insulation specialist Steinbacher and its German subsidiary Gefinex (based in Pritzwalk) delivered a well-insulated and sealed residential project in Spittal an der Drau: steinodur® SHD 500 ECO combined with Geficon® – for reliable and climate-friendly foundation insulation.

Construction of the modern terraced housing development, consisting of six units, began at the end of October 2025 and is scheduled for completion by summer this year. Two high-performance products from the Steinbacher Group were used for the foundation insulation beneath the three floor slabs.
The steinodur® ECO system ensures continuous insulation from beneath the floor slab into the perimeter area and withstands even the highest loads. The dimensionally stable insulation formwork made of hydrophobized polystyrene was specifically developed for foundation insulation.
A key advantage of the ECO system is its safe, simple and above all fast installation. Standardized corner and edge elements, along with T-pieces, form a closed and compact system that can be easily assembled – without screws, brackets or tools.

Water must stay out!

Moisture is one of the biggest challenges in construction, so this residential project in Carinthia takes a no-compromise approach. In addition to the steinodur® ECO system, the innovative Geficon® composite waterproofing was installed – a complete solution beneath the floor slab that reliably prevents rising moisture from penetrating.
This offers major advantages, especially in new builds, as Geficon® – unlike many other waterproofing systems – is protected from damage by subsequent trades. In addition, the concrete bonds with the membrane as it cures, creating a monolithic moisture barrier. Geficon® also delivers on its promise in basement and perimeter areas.

Good for the building, even better for the environment

Both products deliver strong performance while reducing environmental impact. As a climate-friendly alternative to bitumen-based waterproofing, Geficon® contains no plasticizers or other harmful additives and can be installed without concern. Certified with the Austrian Ecolabel, the steinodur® ECO system meets the highest environmental and quality standards.
